In federal government contracts, the contracting officer will often issue a letter formally \u201caccepting\u201d the work, or designated portions thereof. On the other hand, some form contracts avoid using the term \u201cfinal acceptance\u201d in favor of discussing the conditions the contractor must satisfy to obtain the release of \u201cfinal payment.\u201d For example, the Consensus DOCS standard \u201cGeneral Conditions\u201d state that when \u201cFinal Completion\u201d has been achieved, the contractor may invoice for its \u201cFinal Payment.\u201d<br \/>Even though contracts may avoid using \u201cfinal acceptance\u201d language, the law will always recognize that at some point in the closeout process, the owner \u201caccepts\u201d the work as performed and the risk of loss passes to the owner.
