the American Chemistry Council, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Manufacturers along with 27 other organizations are seeking to to promote green building ratings systems as an alternative to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system.
Calling themselves the “The American High-Performance Buildings Coalition,” they have banded together to provide alternate thoughts on what constitutes ‘green building’. In particular, the group was formed as a reaction to the next version of LEED. They are objecting to LEED’s proposed new credits would stigmatize certain building products.
Because the General Services Administration uses LEED for federal green building standards, the group is concerned that LEED is becoming too powerful a force that fails to take into consideration the effect on industries when promulgating its rules.
